For Kidnap I wanted to create scenarios that were terrifying. The experience of losing a child is traumatic the first few minutes are confusing and terrifying. Not knowing what or where to look, franticness takes over. I used a list of adjectives to give me a place on where to start to make things look as if they feel.
The choice that they ended up going with was based on an idea of seeing everything in red, angry. I chose to use the typeface as a device to show the characters POV of seeing everything in red.
I also wanted to show the typeface in a struggle to stay together being ripped. Torn in different directions. Confusion strikes in.
In my research which was gathering information on kidnapped victims and what they go through it was a scary place to be. I wanted to draw you in with tunnel vision when something goes wrong. I kerned the typeface wider to create a sense that the family was apart from each other. In my earlier versions, I spaced out a single letter showing it being taken away from the family. After exploring that we learned that splitting the 6 letter word into two characters sets of type. One is the mother the other being the child it helped in forming the next ideas.
